Why I built VeilFittings

I did not come to bridal through fashion. I came to it through a spreadsheet. A friend of the family runs a two room bridal shop, and one November she asked me to look at the file she used to keep track of gown orders because it had stopped opening reliably. It was a single sheet, thirty one columns wide, with a tab for each year going back to 2016. Wedding dates, designers, style numbers, deposits, balances, and a column called simply NOTES that held sentences like "second bustle point, ask Rosa" and "bride moved date, do not order yet". Everything the business knew was in that sheet, and everything that could go wrong with the business could go wrong because of it.

What struck me was not that the tools were bad. It was that the trade is unusually unforgiving. In most retail a late delivery is an apology and a discount. In bridal there is a fixed, public, emotional deadline, and behind it a workroom whose capacity is measured in a person's hands. A gown that arrives eleven days late does not become a customer service issue, it becomes a fitting nobody has time for, a rush charge nobody wants to explain, and a Saturday your seamstress spends on one dress instead of four. The software that existed either treated the shop like a boutique clothing store with no alterations at all, or like a general appointment calendar with no idea that the gown itself is an object moving through the world.

So I spent a season learning the sequence properly. I sat in on consultations. I timed hems and bustles with a stopwatch, badly at first, until a fitter in Charleston explained why a four point bustle on tulle and a four point bustle on satin are not the same job. I watched three owners chase designer ship windows on the phone and I wrote down exactly what they asked for and what they were told. VeilFittings is the result of that: an order record that starts at the deposit, a schedule that respects the wedding date, and a workroom view that measures capacity in hours rather than in optimism.

Experience and expertise

My background is in building and running small operational software: systems that a handful of people rely on every working day and that cannot afford to be confusing. That is a different discipline from consumer software. The measure of success is not engagement, it is whether the manager who opens the shop at nine can read the day in ninety seconds and whether the person at the pressing table trusts the sheet in her hand.

I run MLJ, SASU, a French company registered in Paris, and I am the publication director for everything on this site. I write the copy, I specify the features, I handle the support inbox and I do the onboarding calls myself for the first shops on any new release. When someone tells me a screen is wrong, that conversation reaches me directly rather than a queue.

What I have learned about this trade, in order of usefulness: the order book is sacred and any product that asks an owner to abandon it in one step will be rejected; consultants will type if the field count is short and will not if it is long; seamstresses judge software by whether the printed sheet is accurate; and owners do not want dashboards, they want to know which three gowns will hurt them this month.

How this product is built and maintained

Every feature on the board starts as a problem described by a working shop, written down in the shop's own words, and none ships until at least three shops have said the same thing independently. I publish what changed each month in plain language rather than in release note jargon. When something breaks, I say what broke, what data was affected and what I changed to stop it happening again.

The editorial standards on this site are the same as the product standards. Every number quoted here comes from anonymized usage across the shops running VeilFittings or from the shop's own reporting, and I will remove a claim rather than defend a soft one. The testimonials are from named people at named businesses who read and approved the exact words before publication. The pricing on this page is the pricing you will be charged. There is no sales script, no artificial scarcity and no discount that appears if you hesitate.

I am accountable for three things: that the board reflects what is really happening in your shop, that your data stays yours and leaves with you in a usable format on the day you ask, and that a person answers when you write. If any of those three fails, write to me and say so.
